Good bye Athens, Hello Crete !
Today was a great and very busy day .Today started out not the greatest way ... Our room was not air conditioned and that did not go well in the 90 degree Athens weather. We all woke up at 5:00 because we were so hot . Breakfast wasn't until 7:15 so we decided we would just get up , shower , and just wait on the balcony until breakfast . When breakfast finally came it was AMAZING ! It was the best Greek yogurt I have ever had and a large meat and chease selection after that we went and got on a subway and went to the capital building ( across the street from where the riots happened). It was actually quite peaceful . I actually didn't see any thing really about the riots in Athens different than signs and shirts saying Greece Stay Strong . We saw the presidential guards they are dressed like they were in the 1500's. After that we started the 5 mile hike to the acropolis. It was a long hike up hilly terrain . It was a nice hike tough. Where ever you looked you could see great views of Athens and there were Greek ruins every where. We finally made it up to the Parthenon and were able to enjoy it . I can not belive that they were able to build it in the BC Area . From there we made the long hike down the hill, then walked to a restaurant . As you can imagine, I was starving afterwards . I was worried that I would not be able to get much food . But i knew I would be happy at the meal when the cook came out and said this " Hello every one , my name is Hellen . Today for lunch I cooked you pasta and chicken. I am the cook for this restauraunt , but for the next hour I will be your mom . What ever you want I will get you" . I ended up eating 4 plates of it ! It was amazing . After that we went into a Greek orthodox church with great architecture . From there we went to the old district of Athens called Palaka we had some free time to walk around and shop . From there we had another amazing Greek dinner ( chicken kabob and lamb ). From there we got on a bus and headed to the Athens port and got on our boat to Irkilano , Crete. I am writing to you from that boat right now. We had an hour to walk around on the boat. It was very Nice . I like this trip so much another part that I don't think I told you about is that this year we have two kids from Calogne , Germany traveiling with us ! They speak very good English and I am good friends with both of them there names are Jen and Fileks . I am rooming with Fileks right now on the ferry. It's 11:10 and I should get to bed, saying that the boat arrives at 6 and we have to get up at 5:10 .

I walked the same area many years ago. Isn't it just awesome! Sounds like you are making friends with everyone! They are lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteMax,
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to know more about the food. What kind of meats and cheeses? Do they have good feta cheese in Greece? What were the sauces for the pasta? My mouth is watering...
